Founded by the legendary permit angling pioneer, Lincoln Westby, Blue Horizon Lodge is perfectly positioned on a private island inside the protected waters of South Water Caye Marine Reserve, between Placencia and Hopkins villages in Belize. Known as “Permit Alley,” nicknamed for the vast network of hard-bottom flats, there is reason it gets this name. Our Lodge is situated right in the heart of Permit Alley, with countless flats within eyesight, giving you quick and easy access to the top producing permit flats in Belize.

Fishing is productive year-round, with the best ‘catching’ occurring from mid-February through early September. The most popular time to fish is February through May, and March/April are particularly popular, often producing the best catch rates of permit for the year. The summer months (June–August) offer the most reliable time of the year for catching a Grand Slam (Bonefish, Permit, and Tarpon in one day), with the addition of migratory tarpon to the fishing menu.

Our guides are born and raised in Belize, and have grown up on the sea. Their roots are in commercial fishing, meaning they know every flat and channel within the 185+ square mile marine reserve, and beyond. Fishing is mostly done from the comfort of 23 foot super pangas, outfitted with casting braces for angler’s ease. Many of the flats in the region are wadable, and it is important to have wading boots with you at all times… you never know when you’ll need them!

Belize is easy to get to from the United States and Canada, with direct flights arriving daily on all the major airlines. English is the official language, so you won’t encounter a language barrier with your guide or traveling to get to our island. The currency is pegged to the US dollar (2:1 ratio), and US currency is accepted everywhere.

Blue Horizon Lodge opened in 1997, by Lincoln and his wife Pearline as a permit-focused “fish camp”; and quickly became a Mecca for anglers looking to catch their first or hundredth permit. We updated the lodge in 2019, with ALL the modern comforts discerning anglers expect: air-conditioned rooms, hot showers, comfortable beds, high-speed internet, and 24-hour power. We’ve done our best to retain the relaxed “fish camp” vibe, with a surprising level of sophistication.

All packages include lodging, guiding, meals, snacks, local beer/alcohol, and non-alcoholic beverages. As well as all ground/boat transfers, marine park fees, and applicable taxes. The lodge offers an intimate and relaxed experience for a maximum of 10 anglers, with a focus on meeting everyone’s needs. We take pride in the cuisine our team prepares, highlighting traditional Belizean dishes with modern flair that rely on our access to fresh seafood and produce.

You’ve heard of “Permit Alley”; now it’s time to see it for yourself!
